Hospitalization and ties to Hearing Loss

A recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association showed that for adults aged 70 and older, hearing loss is independently associated with hospitalization and poorer self-reported health over the prior 12 months. The authors concluded that pathways through which hearing loss could contribute to the odds of hospitalization and poorer self-reported health include social isolation and effects on cognitive decline and dementia. If you or a loved one have had poorer health over the last several months, then it is important to have your hearing evaluated by Hearing Professionals because of the strong correlation among health, hospitalization and hearing loss.
